A South Korean woman who last week gave birth to her daughter in North Korea returned home Tuesday through the United Nations truce village of Panmunjom.

Hwang Sun said she is happy over giving birth in the North, adding she hopes her daughter will one day be free to visit her birthplace.

Hwang, a member of a civic group in South Korea, was rushed to the hospital while watching the Arirang Festival to mark the 60th anniversary of the North Korean Workers' Party.

The Korea National Red Cross in Seoul sent a telegram to its North Korean counterpart expressing thanks for assisting Hwang's delivery.
