South and North Korean laborers will likely hold the first joint May Day event on Mount Kumgang since the division of Korea in 1945, as the South's two major labor organizations accepted the North's proposal Tuesday.

During a working-level meeting between labor groups of the two Koreas in early March, the North Korean Federation of Trade Unions proposed changing the venue of the planned event from Seoul to Mount Kumgang in the North.

The Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) said its representatives decided to accept the North's proposal during a meeting of representatives last Saturday. The federation said it has entrusted its executives to work out the specifics.
