KCTU officials said Tuesday the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) will dispatch a delegation to visit the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organization (AFL-CIO) and discuss cooperation between the two organizations.

The seven-member delegation will include union leaders from Daewoo, Hyundai and Kia Motors, the Federation of Korean Metal Workers Trade Union, as well as KCTU president Dan Byung-ho.

Officials said that the labor leaders will discuss countermeasures to thwart layoffs at Daewoo Motors. They will also collect information from General Motors' union leaders about the rumored plan to close down Daewoo Motors' Pupyong factory in Incheon.

The delegation also intends to raise public awareness abroad about Daewoo owner Kim Woo-choong's alleged embezzlement of hundreds of millions of dollars and the continuing activities of the "arrest squad" KCTU sent to Europe to track him down.
