Hyundai Chairwoman Optimistic over NK Visit

Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jung-eun says she is optimistic over her planned visit Thursday to the North Korean city of Gaesong.

Hyun on Wednesday said the two sides will likely discuss new tourism projects in Mount Baekdu and Gaesong along with normalizing the tour to Mount Geumgang.

She said she hopes her visit will help resolve her group's misunderstanding with the North, adding she will attend next week a ceremony marking the seventh year of the Mount Geumgang tour.

A Hyundai Group executive said he expects a resolution to Hyundai's tour problems if Hyun's visit leads to reconciliation between the two sides.

He said staff from tour operator Hyundai Asan Corporation could visit the North Friday if the chairwoman's visit is successful.
