Officials from the two Koreas will meet in North Korea’s border city of Gaesong Monday to discuss preparations for a tourism program covering the North’s Mount Baekdu.
The Korea Tourism Organization announced Sunday that a group of officials from its firm and Hyundai Asan, the operator of tourism projects in the North, will meet with officials of the North's Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland.
The working-level talks are expected to focus on deciding a date for pilot tours to Mount Baekdu as well as details on an on-site inspection of the area by South Korean officials following Seoul’s earlier provision of asphalt to pave a road leading to the mountain.
The working-level meeting comes after Hyundai Group Chairwoman Hyun Jeong-eun visited the communist state last week and apparently resolved misunderstandings with Pyongyang over the group's ousting of its former point man on North Korean affairs, Kim Yoon-kyu.
Hyun's visit culminated in an announcement on the planned normalization of the Mount Geumgang tours from this Friday.
