South Korea will join International Energy Agency

outh Korea will join the International Energy Agency.

The Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministry said that the government has decided to join the cooperation body of energy consuming countries.

The IEA will decide on South Korea's admission in mid-May.

The IEA was formed in 1974 after the first oil shock in a move to share information on the international oil market among member countries and work out joint countermeasures against possible oil crises. The membership is given only to the members of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development.
