South Korea and China have agreed to set up a biodiversity research center.

The Ministry of Science and Technology announced Wednesday that the agreement was reached after discussions between Science and Technology Minister Oh Myung and Yunnan Province governor Xu Rongkai in the Chinese city of Kunming.

During discussions, Oh explained Seoul’s efforts on developing biotechnology and stressed the need for bilateral cooperation with the southwestern Chinese province in protecting and developing biological resources.

In response, the head of the Chinese province said he was confident that an integration of Seoul’s biotechnology and Yunnan’s rich biological resources would yield positive results and vowed full support for the research center's construction.
