The World Health Organization (WHO) says about 500-thousand dollars is needed to safeguard North Korea against avian influenza.

The W-H-O’s representative to North Korea, Eigil Sorensen, was quoted as saying recently that support is needed for expansion of labs and training of personnel on preventive measures in the North for both this and coming years.

The organization expressed its willingness to provide aid together with the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization in March after the deadly virus was detected at large poultry farms in Pyongyang.
