Twelve North Korean defectors were arrested by Thai police on charges of illegal entrance.

Thailand’s Bangkok Post said Sunday the arrest was made near the border in the northern part of the nation near Laos, and that the defectors are seeking asylum in South Korea after fleeing from the hunger and poverty in North Korea.

However, the police said they would deport the asylum seekers to a third country.
