Geumgang Area Developing into Leisure Town

North Korea's special resort of Mount Geumgang is rapidly turning into a leisure town with a golf course and restaurants under construction.

A golf course between the mountain's highest peaks of Biro and Haegeum will likely open early next year.

The funnel-shaped 14th hole of the course is designed for players to shoot a hole in one once they put the ball on the green.

A beach hotel has opened nearby Jangjeon, the North’s forefront naval base, while a branch of Okryugwan, one of Pyongyang's most famous restaurants, has done so in Onjung-ri near the mountain.

Hyundai Asan Corporation, the tour's operator based in Seoul, and North Korean authorities recently agreed to include the Naegeumgang and Tongchon areas in the tour to further develop the region.
