Korean emigrants tilt toward great white north

Canada is emerging as a new favorite destination for Korean emigrants, while the number emigrating to the United States is declining sharply.

According to annual figures from the Justice Ministry Wednesday, the number of Korean emigrants to the United States was 14,957 in 1991 and 6,101 last year.

The ministry said conversely, the number of people who emigrated to Canada shot up from 1,648 in 1991 to 5,118 last year.
