Meanwhile, an Uzbek flight bound for Tashkent became the last international flight to take off from the Gimpo International Airport before it closed international service Thursday night. The departure of the flight marked the end of the Gimpo International Airport as the main gateway to South Korea.

It has been in service for more than four decades since 1958 when operations moved from the Yoido Airport located about 10 kilometers from downtown Seoul.
