Local operators have launched Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) services for the first time in the nation, allowing mobile phone users to view TV programs on the go.
Through various hand-held devices, users will now be able to enjoy real-time, crystal clear video, CD-quality audio and data that will be provided on seven TV channels, 13 radio channels and eight data channels.
The eight data channels will provide information on traffic, travel, weather, stocks, concerts and education.
People will also be able to enjoy terrestrial DMB TV services through laptops, digital cameras and PDAs.
Later on Thursday, a ceremony celebrating the launching of the services will be held at Korean Broadcasting System in Seoul. Around three-hundred-70 related officials, including those from the six DMB operators, are expected to attend the event, including Korean Broadcasting Commission Chairman Noh Sung-dai and Information and Communication Minister Chin Dae-je.
Developed purely by domestic technology, the service is expected to have an economic generating effect by 2010 of more than eleven trillion won in production and almost four trillion won in added value in light of expected exports to China, Germany and Mexico.
