Korea, Japan to be linked with undersea cable

South Korea and Japan have agreed to link up with a high-speed undersea cable in preparation for the 2002 World Cup.

Officials in Seoul said the project is aimed at channeling massive Internet traffic and broadcasting between the two countries during the international soccer tournament they will co-host.

Korea Telecom and Japan Telecom are among the companies which will take part in the 40 million dollar project.
