Japanese media are reporting that the Inchoen International Airport of South Korea is emerging as a threat to Japan.

Asahi Shimbun said that the new airport is remarkable compared to any other airport in Asia in size.

The newspaper said that the airport has clearly solved the problems of noise as it is located on an island. It also said..it has international competitive edge by having 53 cities with the population of more than one million within a 5 hour flight distance.

It added that the airport was constructed to improve national competitiveness and is likely to take a big leap in 2002 when South Korea cohosts the World Cup Soccer Finals with Japan.
