N. Korean Defector Radio Launched

An Internet radio broadcast run by North Korean defectors will begin service Wednesday in the United States.

Supported by a U.S. shortwave relay broadcast, Free North Korea Radio will air stories of defectors, interviews, letters and history and cultural programs for 30 minutes daily on the shortwave frequency 5880 kHz.

The highest-level defector in South Korea, former secretary of the North's Workers' Party Hwang Jang-yop, will host a program.

The producers said their broadcast will not violate South Korean media regulations and will expose the transgressions of the North's regime in accordance with global broadcast standards.
