S. Korea Overwhelms North in Avg. Income

Per capita income in South Korea last year was 15.5 times that of North Korea.

The National Statistical Office in Seoul said Thursday that per capita gross national income in the South reached 14,162 dollars, far higher than the North's 914 dollars.

South Korea's trading volume was 478 billion dollars, or 167 times the North's 2.8 billion dollars, and had 60 times more vehicles and 15 times more civilian aircraft.

In population, South Korea in July last year had 48 million people and 101.6 men for every 100 women. The North had 22 million people and 96.7 men for every 100 women.
