The International Red Cross Secretary-General hoped Tuesday to visit both South and North Korea this summer.

Didier Cherpitel of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) told South Korean Ambassador Chung Eui-yong in Geneva that he plans to visit Pyongyang during the summer and wants to add Seoul to his itinerary.

Chung expressed full support and said the visit would contribute to improving inter-Korean relations.

The secretary-general came to South Korea in March last year but has not visited North Korea since he took office in October 1999.
