Hyundai Asan says it reaped record profits this year from its tour program at North Korea’s Mount Geumgang.
According to data released by the nation’s major operator of inter-Korean tourism programs Monday, the number of tourists to the scenic mountain resort will likely top 300-thousand by the end of the year.
The firm has also projected that this year’s business profits from the tour program will post around five billion won.
The estimates are good news for Hyundai Asan, especially in the wake of a series of difficulties the firm weathered this year, including a dispute with Pyongyang over the group's ousting of its former point man on North Korean affairs, Kim Yoon-kyu.
The North temporarily halved the daily quota of South Korean visitors to Mout Geumgang to six-hundred after Kim was ousted in August for allegedly embezzling company funds.
