The government is sending coal to North Korea’s border town of Gaesong to help residents beat the cold weather of the winter season.

The Unification Ministry on Tuesday said it delivered 60-thousand tons of imported anthracite coal to the town as aid and to secure cooperation from the North for the ongoing Gaesong Industrial Complex project.

Seoul allocated six-billion won for coal aid from the inter-Korean cooperation fund last year. In the winter of 2004, it sent 20-thousand tons of briquettes and ten-thousand heaters to the village through the Korea Land Corporation.
