The Environment Ministry said Wednesday it will begin publicizing the kind and amount of contaminants produced by companies in 2003.

It hopes the move will curtail the production and emission of dangerous persistent organic pollutants or POPs.

The amount of pollutants from agricultural chemicals and cars will also be surveyed starting in 2003.

This year, the ministry will double the number of harmful chemicals monitored from 80 to 160 and begin investigating any company with more than 50 employees.

A spokesman said that the ministry is drawing up a special bill to minimize and eliminate POPs and will propose it to the National Assembly next March.
