Gyeonggi Province on Thursday signed an agreement with North Korea on a rice farming project over one square kilometer of land just outside Pyongyang.

A Gyeonggi delegation signed the deal in the North's border city of Gaesong.

The province last year ran a successful a trial project to improve the North's agricultural productivity. Last week, it brought in a ton of rice produced from the project, the first of its kind since the country's division.

A working-level meeting early next month in Pyongyang will discuss more details including field inspections and farming schedules.
