Hwang Stripped of Awards From O'seas

Foreign science organizations and journals have retracted their awards given to disgraced scientist Hwang Woo-suk.

The U.S.-based World Technology Network last week stripped Hwang of the World Technology Award that it gave to him in November last year in San Francisco for his work in life science.

The network, an international association of more than 1,000 scholars from 60 countries, will instead give the award to New York University professor Nadrian Siman.

The U.S. journal Scientific American has also nixed its designation of Hwang last year as Research Leader of the Year.

Meanwhile, the Korea Science Foundation will wait until Seoul National University disciplines Hwang before deciding to strip him of the title "national scientist."
