A customs, immigration and quarantine office has opened on the east coast for a cross-border road to Mount Geumgang in North Korea.

The CIQ office in Goseong County, Gangwon Province, began operations Friday as 15 trucks crossed a border gate at 9:20 a.m. carrying construction materials and goods to the resort mountain.

The office has simplified immigration procedures to enable drive-thru service.
