Korea Railroad chief Lee Chul on Friday left for Beijing en route to North Korea.

During his five-day trip to the North, Lee will meet with high-ranking officials to discuss pending issues for the re-opening of inter-Korean railways.

The two sides will also discuss unifying their differing railroad signal systems and train production technology.

Attention is focusing on whether Lee will ask the North to allow former President Kim Dae-jung to visit Pyongyang by way of inter-Korean railroads or propose that the two sides travel by rail to the World Cup Germany via North Korea and Russia.
