2 Koreas Agree to Hold Military Talks

The two Koreas have agreed to hold their third military talks between the end of this month and early March in the truce village of Panmunjom.Working-level representatives from both sides on Friday morning discussed details at Unification Pavilion.

The Defense Ministry said the talks will focus on easing military tension on the Korean Peninsula and building mutual trust.

The two sides will also sign a military guarantee agreement on roads and railroads connecting the two Koreas and discuss prevention of naval skirmishes in the West Sea and forming joint fishing zones.

Seoul and Pyongyang last held military talks in June 2004 near Mount Seorak on South Korea's eastern coast.

They agreed to launch a wireless communication network to prevent accidental sea clashes, shut off loudspeakers near the Demilitarized Zone and remove propaganda posters.

Moon Sung-mook, chief of North Korea affairs at the Defense Ministry, represented the South at the working-level meeting Friday and Colonel Park Ki-yong did so for the North.
