BOK: NK Increasingly Dependent on China's Economy

A new report shows that North Korea is growing more dependent on China’s economy every year.

According to the report released by the Bank of Korea Tuesday, trade between the North and China has posted a 30 percent growth annually for five years since 2000. The report also pointed out that in 2004, business with China accounted for 39 percent of North Korea's total trade.

The increase between 2000 and 2005 accounted for 77 percent of the North’s total increase in trade over that period, indicating China's fundamental influence on North Korean trade and prompting the central bank to point out that the North's isolated economy would flounder without Chinese participation.
