A South Korean vessel on Tuesday will carry the nation's first shipment of fertilizer aid this year to North Korea.

The Unification Ministry in Seoul said Monday that the cargo ship carrying 6,000 tons of fertilizer will leave from Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, and head for the North's port of Nampo.

The ministry will also arrange for five North Korean vessels to transport more fertilizer to the North.

Seoul will provide 150,000 tons of fertilizer to Pyongyang this year.
