The Customs, Immigrations and Quarantine offices for two inter-Korean roads officially opened Wednesday.
A ceremony marking the completion of the Gyeongui CIQ office was held in Paju, Gyeonggi Province and one for the Donghae office in Goseong, Gangwon Province.
Construction on the two-story Donghae office located on a 14-thousand square-meter site began in June 2004, while work on the Gyeongui office began three months later on a 17,500-square meter plot of land.
Construction costs for the Donghae and Gyeongui offices totaled some 55 billion and 42.5 billion won each.
The Gyeongui road is expected to transport around 1.7 million passengers a year and the Donghae road 2.6 million.
The offices have been running on a trial basis from January.
Some 402,500 people and 58,700 cars used the inter-Korean roads last year.
