13th Family Reunion to Begin Monday

Hundreds of South and North Korean families separated from their loved ones for more than half a century will be briefly reunited at the 13th Red Cross reunion that begins Monday.

The first group of 99 South Korean families, or some one-hundred-49 family members, departed for the North’s Mount Geumang resort early Monday morning from Sokcho, Gangwon Province.

The group will hold their first reunion with their long lost kin in the North at a dinner reception later in the evening.

On the second day of reunions Tuesday, the families will lunch together and enjoy an outing to the Samilpo resort area before bidding farewell on Wednesday.

The South’s second group of some four-hundred family members will leave for the North’s scenic mountain resort Thursday for a three-day reunion.
