Two U.S. diplomats have visited the Gaesong Industrial Complex in the North, the first such visit by American officials.

Upon the invitation of the North Korean government, the first and second secretaries from the U.S. Embassy in Seoul visited the complex on Monday. They were accompanied by
advisor Douglas Anderson of the House International Relations Committee.

The Americans were given a closed-door tour of the facilities.

Last week, U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Alexander Vershbow told ruling Uri Party Chairman Chung Dong-young that mid-level embassy officials might soon visit the North Korean industrial complex.
