Construction of plants that will supply and filter water for North Korea’s Gaesong industrial complex will begin Tuesday.

The Korea Land Corporation said that the South Korean firm of Hyundai Asan is in charge of building the water filtration and supply facilities while the North will be leading the work to lay down water pipe systems.

According to the state-run land firm, construction is scheduled to be completed by next year.

The building of the water plants is expected to speed up the first phase of the park's overall construction, following the opening of an inter-Korean telephone service in March and Seoul's provision of 15-thousand kilowatts of electricity to the North last year.
