Koreas to Jointly Inspect Goguryeo Tombs

The two Koreas will conduct a joint inspection of tombs dating from the ancient Goguryeo Kingdom in North Korea that hold World Heritage status.

The Cultural Heritage Administration in Seoul said Tuesday that some 40 experts from South and North Korea from April 19th will take part in the inspections for two weeks.

The inspection list includes the royal tomb of King Dongmyeong, tombs in Jinpari, and murals from the Ssangyeongchong tomb.

Experts will examine the pigments used for the murals and how parts of the tombs receded.

The complex of the Goguryeo tombs on the World Heritage List has 63 tombs from five North Korean regions.

The complex of the Goguryo tombs on the World Heritage List has 63 tombs from five North Korean regions: Pyongyang, Nampo and Daedong in South Pyongan Province and Anak County in South Hwanghae Province. Sixteen of them are mural tombs.
