Pres. Office Denies P'yang Summit Rumor

The presidential office has denied that North Korea wants the second inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang around October 3rd on the occasion of National Foundation Day.

Presidential spokesman Kim Man-soo on Tuesday downplayed ruling party lawmaker Choi Sung's comment that he heard of the proposal during his recent visit to Beijing and the Gaesong Industrial Complex near the inter-Korean border.

Kim dismissed Choi's comment as a rumor that has surfaced several times before.

The first inter-Korean summit was held in 2000 when then South Korean President Kim Dae-jung visited Pyongyang.

The October 3rd holiday marks the country's founding by the mythical figure Dangun, who is believed to have first come to Korea in 2333 B.C.
