The government and ruling camp have finalized revisions of distorted facts contained in recently approved Japanese history textbooks.

The inter-ministry task force for textbook issuance and the Millennium Democratic Party (MDP)'s special committee held a joint meeting and determined that more than 30 sections should be rewritten.

The government will soon deliver the suggested revisions to Japanese Ambassador to South Korea Terusuke Terada.

The revisions stressed sections concerning the treatment of Korean women by the Japanese military during wartime and in particular the issue of sexual slavery.

Committee head Park Sang-cheon said... most of the revisions demanded by the committee last week were accepted at Monday's meeting.

The textbook furor erupted early April when Japan authorized eight editions of history textbooks to be used in junior high schools from next year.

One edition in particular has drawn heavy criticism for distorting data and reducing or omitting widely acknowledged historical facts.
