The government says it plans to propose revisions to North Korea’s plan to build an inter-Korean science and technology cooperation center.
The Ministry of Science and Technology said Monday that it decided to push for the revisions after a delegation of South Korean scientists recently returned from an academic seminar in Pyongyang.
The ministry plans to inform the North on revisions relating to the center’s size, function and operation soon after consultations with the Unification Ministry.
Seoul is reportedly opposed to building the center on a massive scale as it believes such a size would not necessarily be in line with the principle of promoting scientific exchanges between the two Koreas.
Potential construction of the center would likely be funded by around 15 billion won from the inter-Korean cooperation fund earmarked for the science sector.
