'N. Korea Gives Rice Aid to Other Nations'

A North Korean defector says Pyongyang has given rice aid from South Korea to newly emerging independent states.
Testifying in the parliamentary confirmation hearings for Prime Minister-designate Han Myung-sook Tuesday, Kim Yong-sun said the aid has gone to the North's military and other nations but none to the North Korean people.
Escaping from a concentration camp for political prisoners in the North five years ago, Kim also quoted a senior Pyongyang official as saying the North's population is 18 million, not the 23 million commonly quoted worldwide.
