The government resolved a bill on the promulgation of the nation's human rights law at a cabinet meeting presided over by President Kim Dae-jung Tuesday.
Accordingly, the law is expected to be announced sometime this month and come into force six months thereafter. The National Assembly passed the law last month.
The law enables people whose human rights are abused while being detained or investigated by central or local government, and those whose equal rights are being infringed upon by legal entities, organizations or an individual, to seek relief from the National Human Rights Commission.
The commission, which will consist of 11 members including a chairman and three standing members, will be able to demand materials from agencies accused of violating human and equal rights.
