Koreas to Conduct Test Runs of Joint Railways

The two Koreas will conduct test runs from May 25th on two sets of new railways built across the heavily fortified Demilitarized Zone.

The two sides reached the agreement Saturday after two days of working-level rail talks in the North Korean border city of Gaesong.

The test runs will take place on a 27-kilometer railway linking Munsan in South Korea and Gaesong and on a 25-kilometer strip between Jejin in South Korea and Mount Geumgang.

A hundred officials, guests and reporters will ride each train in the test runs after three days of joint safety checks are conducted beginning Wednesday.

The two Koreas also agreed to discuss military guarantees for the test runs through military talks.
