Gov’t Begins Fertilizer Aid Shipment to NK

The government will begin shipping an additional 200-thousand tons of fertilizer aid to North Korea from Monday.

The Unification Ministry says a vessel carrying the first batch of seven-thousand tons will leave South Korea's Yeosu Port Monday en route to Nampo, a port on the North's west coast.

North Korea will send six ships to the South's Ulsan Port from Wednesday through next Saturday to pick up the remaining aid.

At last month's inter-Korean ministerial talks, South Korea agreed to provide the latest aid worth 77 billion won or some 82-point-five million U.S. dollars, including transport costs.

Seoul had already sent 150-thousand tons of aid to the North earlier in the year.

Last year, the North asked for 500-thousand tons Seoul ultimately sent 350-thousand tons.
