A Japanese publisher has reportedly made revisions to a right wing history textbook after it was approved by the Japanese government.
Japanese media said Fushyo Publishing Company has made revisions to some passages regarding Japan's ancient and modern history, on its own, after the Education Ministry endorsed the textbook. The report cited a passage, in which the Taiwan War was changed into "a dispatch of troops to Taiwan" referring to the dispatch of Japanese soldiers to Taiwan in 1874.
The Japanese government said it cannot make any revisions unless there are facts that are clearly incorrect.
Officials in South Korea say Fushyo's revision shows that the textbooks could be revised by publishers even after they have been approved by the government.
Earlier this month, the South Korean government demanded that Japan revise 35 passages in eight Japanese history textbooks which critics say gloss over Japan's wartime atrocities and aggression.
The Japanese government is refusing to revise the textbooks written by right wing historians, saying they do not reflect the Tokyo government's official position.
In April, the Japanese Education Ministry approved the history textbooks, prompting storms of protest from South Korea, North Korea and China.
