Ex-Pres. to Discuss Unification with N.K. Leader

Former President Kim Dae-jung says he will discuss with North Korean leader Kim Jong-il reunification of the Korean Peninsula during his trip to Pyongyang next month.

In a speech to an international conference in Seoul Tuesday, Kim pledged talks on how to reunify the two Koreas and what role the Korean people can play in establishing a world order of friendly cooperation.

He said he will also discuss promoting inter-Korean reconciliation and cooperation and working with neighboring powers.

He said he hopes his trip to Pyongyang will help promote inter-Korean relations and peace on the Korean Peninsula and jumpstart the six-way nuclear talks.

Kim said he will visit Pyongyang as a private citizen, not a government envoy.
