Two Koreas to Open Economic Talks Saturday

The two Koreas will hold a four-day meeting of their Inter-Korean Economic Cooperation Promotion Committee beginning Saturday.

The Unification Ministry in Seoul said Monday it has agreed to Pyongyang's request to hold the meeting on South Korea's Jeju Island.

As the first meeting between the two sides since the North's abrupt cancellation of inter-Korean railway test runs last week, Seoul is expected to express regret over and urge the start of the test runs as soon as possible.

South Korea could also threaten to retract its pledge for light industrial materials unless North Korea takes a sincere approach on the matter.

The North will likely again urge the redrawing of the maritime border in the Yellow Sea and attention to South Korea's political situation, and blame Seoul for the canceled test runs.
