Teachers’ associations of the two Koreas will hold joint classes this month on the historical significance of the June 15th Joint Declaration issued after the landmark inter-Korean summit in 2000.
In a news conference Friday, South Korea’s Korean Federation of Teachers’ Associations and The Korean Teachers and Education Workers’ Union said that they had agreed on the joint classes with the North’s Chosun Education Culture Professional Association.
Under the agreement, the groups will designate the week beginning June 12th as a "joint education week" to teach details and meanings of the inter-Korean joint declaration.
The joint classes, the second of their kind, will be given to elementary, middle and high school students.
The two South Korean associations also plan to seek an observation session of the classes by inter-Korean education leaders, a meeting of South and North Korean teachers and an cross-border year-end conference at North Korea's Mount Geumgang or in the city of Gaesong.
