N. Korea to Allow Abductee to Meet Family

North Korea will soon arrange a meeting between a South Korean national whom it kidnapped in 1978 and his family in South Korea.

The Unification Ministry in Seoul said Thursday that the North's Senior Cabinet Councilor Kwon Ho-ung sent a telegram to that effect and that it will send to Pyongyang Friday the list of Kim's relatives in South Korea.

The reunion will take place from June 19th in a special round of inter-Korean family reunions at the North's Mount Geumgang, an event to mark the sixth anniversary of the 2000 inter-Korean summit.

The ministry said that at inter-Korean ministerial talks in Pyongyang in April, Seoul asked for information on Kim's fate, and that the North agreed to study the matter.

Kim is believed to have married a Japanese national who was kidnapped in 1977, Megumi Yokota.
