N. Korea to Air World Cup from Tuesday

The Korean Broadcasting Commission in Seoul will help North Korea watch the World Cup soccer finals starting with South Korea's first game Tuesday.

The commission on Monday said it tested the broadcast of the opening ceremony and the first game between Germany and Costa Rica Saturday morning at the request of the North's Central Television.

Through South Korea's soccer association and FIFA, soccer's world governing body, Seoul acquired the broadcast rights in North Korea from Infront, which handles global sales of all broadcast rights for the World Cup.

The commission will send the programs via Taicom III satellite with the help of South Korea's three main networks of KBS, MBC and SBS. The North will record and broadcast them through a terrestrial channel.

Seoul will pay for relay broadcasts with its broadcast development and inter-Korean cooperation funds.
