According to rating sources Wednesday Korean companies have been improving their credit ratings for the past three years.

The ratio between the number of companies with improved ratings and those which suffered downgrades stood at only 0.1 in 1998 shortly after the financial crisis began, but the comparable ratio improved to 1 in 1999 and rose to 2.1 last year. It stood at 1.84 by the end of April this year.

A reading above 1 indicates that corporate credit ratings are generally on the rise as financial health improves.
