Inter-Korean Trade Continues to Rise

Inter-Korean trade is on a steady rise as the Gaesong Industrial Complex in North Korea continues to increase output and install more infrastructure.

A Korea International Trade Association report on Thursday shows that trade between the two Koreas from January to May soared 34 percent year-on-year to nearly 430 million dollars.

South Korea's exports to the North grew 35 percent to 265 million dollars and import 33 percent to more than 163 million dollars.

The rise in numbers is also being attributed to growth in processing-on-commission trade and general trade spurred by increasing North Korean imports of minerals, sportswear and shoe materials.
