A government official said Sunday that the government will raise the issue of distortions in the recently approved Japanese history textbooks at a U.N. meeting to be held in Paris starting Monday.
The official noted that South Korean Ambassador to France Jang Jai-ryong will represent his country at an executive directors meeting of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The official added that....on Tuesday, when the participants discuss the relevant agenda, Jang will address the Japanese textbook issue.
Jang will reportedly point out that the whitewashes of historys counter UNESCO and other international recommendations on
education, saying wrongly-described historical facts would not be
of help to Japan's younger-generation.
South Korea also raised the textbook issue at the April U.N.
human rights committee meeting. The textbook issue was brought up at the April U.N. meeting as a human rights issue but it would be highlighted in the viewpoint of education at the upcoming UNESCO session.
