The head of an association for family members kidnapped by North Korea has called for the creation of a special organization that would exclusively handle cases of South Koreans abducted by the North.
Choi Sung-yong told reporters in Seoul Tuesday that government officials should pressure the North to deal with the issue of South Koreans abductees when the two Koreas meet for ministerial talks next week.
Choi stressed that there needs to be differentiation between abductees and the issue of separated families.
Choi said Kim Yong-nam was clearly kidnapped, stressing that the communist state should not use Kim’s case for political motives.
Choi added that Kim and his family in the South should exchange visits on the condition that his family would not have to visit Pyongyang for the Arirang Festival next month.
